The Big First Birthday Party

Over the years I've learned that having a big party for a one year old (two year old... three year old) is nothing more than being stressful for the adults and the birthday child.  There is no need.
So this time around, we celebrated Blue's birthday with his aunt and uncles, cousins, grandfather, and great grandmother.  We ordered pizza to keep it simple and bought the cakes instead of making them.  We asked (begged) that no one bring gifts, and everyone obliged.
At the last minute I decided to do a circus theme, minus the clowns.  I made the boy a shirt to commemorate the day and off we went.
The boy was a complete ham with his cake eating and thoroughly enjoyed it.  I'd say it was a huge success.

The boy's cake.  Store bought and simple.

Four generations.

Stinker.

Dying to poke the cake.

And poke.

Of course, everyone laughed, which is then hilarious.

So, poke, poke, poke the cake.

And dig in!

He really dug into that thing!

You!  You!  This cake is awesome.

Holy crap, I'm a mess!

The now famous duck lips!

These pics are adorable. I LOVE newborns and babies in general, but I can look at pictures of them all day long and not feel any twinges for one of my own. This series of one-year-old Blue just made me WANT. Oh my goodness, your boy is precious.

So cute! I love his pointing picture. I also love his shirt, I may have to copy that.

Awww, so cute! I do believe I know where that cake is from (W's?) and I never thought of that as a smash cake, but it is the perfect size! I might borrow that idea in a few months!

So cute! Luckily E's sensitive nature, and my fear of party planning has saved us from ourselves so far. We've had more "themed playdates" than parties.
