Then, around nine months old, I put him in the swing and while he didn't fuss to get out, he had a really tough time staying upright and would wobble around.
Fastforward to a little over a year old and we go to the park near our house. I put him in the swing and once he gets down, he can't stand. Since he was just learning to walk, I thought maybe he was unsturdy... except it didn't end. He could even sit upright. We went home, very alarmed. Within about twenty minutes it was as if nothing had happened. I spoke with several nurse friends who reassured me everything was okay. Unanswered, but okay.
About two weeks after the incident, I put him in the swing at our house and again, after he got down, he couldn't walk.
Then it clicked... an inner ear issue? Something wasn't right.
We spoke with the doctor and monitored the boy. The theory was that his inner ear and vestibular system were immature. We talked short and long term and kept watching him. The biggest fear was a vestibular disorder, which only time would tell.
Just recently, we've turned a corner. For the first time in his little twenty month life, the boy can swing and he loves, loves, loves it.
